„At Bac River.... on the valley that falls near the Chesenau of Acbas, at the Well where the Tatar Selistea is near the Forest” - this is the first historical mention of the name of the current Capital of the Republic of Moldova. It appears on July 17, 1436, in a letter written by Ilie and Stefan, the then rulers of the Country of Moldova. As a human settlement, today's city is much older than its documentary attestation. It has been inhabited since ancient times, testimony being the results of the archeological excavations, which attested vestiges of habitation from the Upper Paleolithic, from the first Iron Age, from the Romanization of Dacia and the migration of peoples, as well as from the domination of the Golden Horde over the local population. In popular parlance, the word „Chisinau” appears with the meaning of „water flow”. The spring that is still located under the hill on which the Mazarachie church rises adorns this corner of Chisinau and is considered its historic hearth.

The history of winemaking begins with Constantin Mimi, the last governor of Bessarabia and one of the most prolific winemakers and politicians of the 20th century. Today Mimi Castle is one of the top tourist attractions in Moldova, a real national treasure. They are included in the top 15 most beautiful wineries in the world.
