The museum occupies the former building of the former gymnasium for girls, founded by Princess Natalia Dadiani. The building was designed in the spirit of the Italian Renaissance, which corresponded to the Enlightenment ideals. It is the only museum of this profile in the Republic of Moldova.

Description
The first Pinacotheca was created in 1939, but during the First World War they were lost. The works of art from the museum heritage are grouped in sections: medieval art and folk creation, Bessarabian and contemporary art, Russian, Western European and Oriental art, scenography and applied decorative art etc. The museum's collection has been completed over time, with old icons (religious), works by Bessarabian painters and those from Russia, Western Europe, Japan, India, China.
